A Dhaka court sent BNP Joint Secretary General Amanullah Aman to jail in four cases, although another court granted him bail in four other cases yesterday.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Toybul Hasan rejected his bail petition and passed the order after he surrendered to the magistrate’s court yesterday morning.
Aman's High Court bail for the past four weeks expired on Saturday.
The BNP leader surrendered to the magistrate’s court after the bail expired and appealed for bail again.
The four cases were lodged with Keranigonj police station against Aman in connection with violence, arson attacks and impeding police men in performing duties during blockade programmes sponsored by the BNP-led alliance.
On the other hand, another Dhaka court granted bail to Amanullah Aman, BNP Standing Committee Member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and BNP Dhaka unit Secretary Abdus Salam in four cases filed with Ramna and Shabagh police stations on different dates during last two months.
The cases were filed in connection with the murder of police Constable Ferdous Khalil, arson attacks in the Shabagh area and vandalism during BNP-enforced blockade.
Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor granted bail to the BNP leaders upon their signing Tk50,000 bonds.
Defense Counsel Md Sanaullah Miah and Taherul Islam Tohid filed the bail petitions.
