Khaleda sits with Dhaka city BNP leaders at night

Update : 10 Feb 2014, 11:26 AM

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will hold a meeting with the BNP’s Dhaka leaders Monday night.

The meeting is scheduled for 8pm at Khaleda’s Gulshan office, Abdus Salam, member secretary of Dhaka city unit BNP, told the Dhaka Tribune earlier on Friday last week.

Presidents and general secretaries, or convenors, from 100 wards were asked to attend the meeting, Salam said.

In the meeting, Khaleda is likely to take suggestions of the BNP leaders on the formation of the new committee, he added. She sat with them in November last year.

The BNP is likely to form a 21-member Dhaka city unit convening committee by dissolving the existing one as it has failed to play any vital roles in the party’s anti-government campaign, according to party insiders.

The committee is likely to be formed by seven to 10 days.

Party sources said Khaleda could possibly discuss the formation of the new committee that day and that Standing Committee member ASM Hannan Shah was likely to get charge of the new city unit but he was unwilling to take it citing health complications.

On Thursday night, Khaleda Zia held a meeting for the party’s Standing Committee at her office and decided to reshuffle the city’s BNP unit, said party sources.
