BNP activist hacked to death in Jessore

The activists of Juba League, the Awami League’s youth affiliate group, have allegedly hacked a BNP activist to death atJessore’sSharshabazaar on Saturday night.

The deceased was one Osman Goni, 45, an activist of BNP’s Sharshaupazila unit who was also a local businessman.

Syed SaberulHaqueSabu, general secretary oftheBNP’s district unit, told the Dhaka Tribune that Juba League activist Shiplu and his men stabbed Osman since he had refused to pay an extorted amount of Tk100,000.

Witnesses said Osman was attacked sometime close to 11pm while he was passing through Sharshabazaar.The assault left him gravely injured.

Osman was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital where he later died while on his way to being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Ahmed Kabir, officer in-charge ofSharsha police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that hehas yet to file any complaints inconnection to the incident.

“Steps wouldbe taken after a complaint has been filed,” he said.
