Family members of the BNP leader Omar Faruk yesterday urged the authority concerned to trace him immediately.
Omar Faruk, chairman of Hazirpara union under Lakshmipur Sadar upazila and Organising Secretary of the BNP Sadar upazila (east) unit, has remained missing since RAB members picked him up in Katgar area under Patenga police station in Chittagong city early onWednesday.
Family members of Omar made the appeal at a press conference held at Lakshmipur Press Club.
Parvin Akter, wife of Faruk, read a written statement at the press conference.
“Patenga police told me that that they did not arrest him,” she said adding that they also did not allow her to file a general diary in this regard.
“Later, we contacted RAB-7, but they also denied of arresting him.”
At the press briefing, tearful Faruk’s daughter Farhana Akter Pomi said, “Please let us talk with our father at least once over phone.”
Faruk’s son, Imam Hossain Imon, said he would not sit for SSC examination if he did not get back his father.
They also expressed their hope that the government would return their father.
When contacted, Rab-7 denied the allegation, saying they had not conduct any drive in Katgar recently.
Meanwhile, the local BNP unit has called an eight-hour hartal in the district for Saturday, protesting the detention of Omar Faruk by members of the elite forces. The shutdown call came in a press release signed-off on by the district BNP Vice-President Saidul Islam Bhuiyan at noon.
The shutdown will remain in force from 6am till 2pm.
