Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, announced a new president and secretary general for its central committee for the current year yesterday.
Members of the organisation elected former Secretary General Mohammad Abdul Zabbar as president in a ballot, Zabbar than selected Atiqur Rahman as the new secretary general.
The party announced the new leaders at a secret meeting held at an auditorium in the capital.
Former president and current Assistant Election Commissioner of Shibir, Nurul Islam Bulbul, administered the oath to the newly elected president.
After taking the oath, Zabbar instructed leaders and activists of the organisation to strongly resist the joint forces attacks on, and torture of, Shibir men across the country.
Shibir’s Assistant Press Secretary Jamaluddin told the Dhaka Tribune that they did not disclose the location of the auditorium, and did not invite the media to avoid harassment by law enforcement agencies.
Most of the central committee members of Shibir are accused in various murder or vandalism cases.
