Bangladesh Chhatra League of Dhaka University unit allegedly beat up four students and handed them over to police claiming they were Shibir activists.
The four students are: fourth year student Borhan, third year student Moudud and second year student Faruk of Islamic History and a fresher Rakib.
Witnesses said Chhatra League activists of Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haq Hall beat them with sticks and rods at campus premises on Tuesday around 4pm.
Later, the four were handed them over to Shahbagh police over claims of being involved with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Dhaka University acting Proctor Amzad Ali endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune. “We have sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.”
“Actions will be taken against them after investigation,” he said.
Zahurul Haq hall Chhatra League General Secretary Al Nahian Khan said the four had messages of Shibir in their mobile phones. “We handed them over to police.”
Shahbagh police Officer-in-Charge Serajul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune the four were sent to DMCH for treatments. “No case has been filed yet.”
