The BNP has held a public rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Monday afternoon.
Leaders of the 18-party alliance have joined the rally that began at around 3pm.
However, no leaders from the Jamaat-e-Islami were seen at the rally, reports this correspondent.
Jamaat leaders and activists usually join the ralies of the opposition alliance. But, this time the party leaders remained absent in the programme.
In her address, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said: "The Awami League government has come to power through brute force."
She further said it is necessary to hold immediate dialogue for holding an acceptable election.
This was the first of her campaign programmes throughout the country in a bid to mount public support behind the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
Chairman of the newest fraction of Jatiya Party Kazi Zafar Ahmed also addressed the rally.
On Sunday, BNP has been given conditional permission to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.
The conditions include prohibition from creating chaos, bar on transporting explosives, or wielding sticks and weapons at any cost.
