At least five were injured in a factional clash between two rival groups of the ruling Awami League at Barotalian village under Kaliganj upazila, Jhenaidah on Friday morning.
The injured Awami League activists were rushed to Kaliaganj upazila health complex. The agitated people damaged a number of houses before setting them on fire.
Barotalian Ward Member Mantu Mollah said Awami League members Sher Ali, Ziarul Islam and Shukur Ali swooped in on the house of Sakhawat Hossain sometime near 11am and hacked at him.
They also hacked up one of his neighbours when he came to Sakhawat’s rescue.
Later, members of the village locality gave chase to Sher Ali and Shukur Ali before they proceeded to physically assault the fleeing duo. The villagers also attacked Sher Ali’s houses and vandalised it.
Kola police outpost In-Charge Sabbir Hossain said the clash had taken place over establishing some form of supremacy within the area.
