Of the 49 members of the newly formed cabinet led by Hasina, 18 said they run businesses while 11 identified themselves as lawyer in their affidavits placed before the Election Commission ahead of the parliamentary poll.
Among the ministers Tofail Ahmed runs an agriculture and share business, Rashed Khan Menon is the chairman and managing director of two companies respectively, Anisul Islam Mahmud is a textile and garment manufacturer and exporter, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya is the managing director of two companies and owner of Rituchakra Traders, Asaduzzaman Noor is the vice-chairman of Asiatic Group and managing director of Desh Telivision Limited, Syed Mohsin Ali runs a sawmill business, while Mohammad Nasim, Engineer Mosharrof Hossain, Emazuddin Pramanik and Shahjahan Khan mentioned business as their profession.
From the list of state ministers, Mujibul Haque Chunnu runs a business (also a lawyer), Mirza Azam is the owner of two companies, Promod Mankin is an importer (also a lawyer), Bir Bahadur Ushoi Singh Tanchangya has a rubber business, Narayan Chandra Chand has a brickfield business, Asaduzzaman Khan owns a company and serve as a managing director at another one, Shahjahan Khan runs a transport business, Zahid Malek is a chairman at four companies and Saifuzzaman Chowdhury is a businessman.
Both the deputy ministers – Arif Khan Joy and Abdullah Al Islam Jacob – are businessman by profession.
Lawyers from the new cabinet are Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Amir Hossain Amu, AKM Mojammel Haque, Sayedul Haque, Anisul Haque, Mujibul Haque, Mostafizur Rahman, Kamrul Islam, Promod Mankin, Sri Biren Shikder, and Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
Those who mentioned politics as their profession are AMA Muhith, Hasanul Haque Inu (also an engineer), Nurul Islam Nahid, MA Mannan, AHM Mustafa Kamal, Abdul Latif Siddique and Obaidul Quader.
Syed Ashraful Islam and Meher Afrose in their affidavits said they are social workers.
Anwar Hossain Manju said he was working as the adviser to the prime minister. Khandker Mosharrof Hossain is chief technical adviser of the ILO, Shamsur Rahman Sharif is a tenant farmer and Ismat Ara Sadek a housewife.
However, Motia Chwodhury, Shahriar Alam and Nasrul Hamid did not say anything about their professions in their affidavits.
