Comprising more than half of the cabinet, 25 individuals have emerged as ministers in the new cabinet for the first time.
The first-time ministers are Syed Mohsin Ali, Prof Motiur Rahman, Asaduzzaman Noor, AHM Mostafa Kamal, Anisul Haque, Shamsur Rahman Sharif, Emajuddin Pramanik, Sayedul Haque, Quamrul Islam and AKM Mojammel Haque.
The first-time state ministers are Shahriar Alam, Mirza Azam, Junayed Ahmed Palak, Ismat Ara Sadek, Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Nasrul Hamidul Haque Bipu, MA Mannan, Zahid Malik, Bir Bahadur, Narayan Chandra Chanda, Biren Sikdar, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Saifuzzaman Chowdhury. Arif Khan Joy and Abdullah al Islam Jacob are the two first-time deputy ministers.
Conducted by Cabinet Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, the oath-taking ceremony began at 3:30pm and ended at 3:58pm at the Bangabhaban.
The 10th general election was held on January 5 amid a boycott by main opposition BNP.
The Awami League secured absolute majority in the election, bagging 232 seats – 105 contested and 127 uncontested.
The Jatiya Party emerged second in parliament with 33 seats – 13 contested and 20 uncontested.
On Saturday, the Parliament Secretariat published a gazette notification confirming Rawshan Ershad as the Leader of the Opposition of the 10th parliament.
