BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is no longer the Opposition Leader in Parliament.
Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said after attending the oath-taking ceremony at the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.
Ashraf said, “According to the Constitution, Khaleda Zia is no longer the opposition leader. From now on she is a former opposition leader."
283 MPs, who were elected in the 10th parliamentary polls, took oath on Thursday morning.
The new cabinet would be sworn in on Sunday.
The 10th general elections were held on January 5 amid the boycott of the then main opposition BNP.
Khaleda became the Opposition Leader of the House in 1996 and 2008.
Jatiya Party’s senior Presidium member Rawshan Ershad, wife of former military dictator and party Chairman HM Ershad, is the Opposition Leader in the 10th Parliament.
