AL man dead in Noakhali post-polls clash

An Awami League activist died on Monday when opposition supporters attacked a polls-victory rally in Sonaimuri upazila on Sunday night after the parliamentary elections.

BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami men attacked the victory parade of local Awami League after the 10th parliamentary polls sometime around 8pm Sunday, police said.

Juba League activist Mahfuz, 22, son of Joynal Hossain from the upazila, sustained injuries during the clash, Sonaimuri police station Sub Inspector Jamal Uddin Sarker told the Dhaka Tribune.

He was rushed to Sonaimuri Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries around 5am on Monday, the official added.

No one was arrested until 12 noon, he said.
