Police arrested the president of Azizul Haque College’s Chhatra Shibir unit from a hospital in Bogra on Friday afternoon.
Jewel Sarkar was arrested from Islamia Hospital around 12pm, where he had been secretly taking treatment to evade arrest after being injured while allegedly making bombs.
Later, police shifted Jewel to Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where he has been kept under police custody.
Police also detained seven people, including Islamia Hospital Director Selim Reza and two doctors, from the hospital for allegedly obstructing police duty. They were taken to Sadar police station for interrogation.
Superintendent of Police Md Mozammel Haque said: “Jewel was injured while making bombs in his house at Jamilnagar in the morning.”
Confirming about the arrest, he said: “The Director and doctors of Islami Hospital obstructed the police when they went to arrest Jewel at the hospital.”
However, Mizanur Rahman, publicity secretary of Shibir’s district unit claimed Jewel was injured while inspecting a bomb which he found in front of his house.
