At least 10 people, including three women and a child, sustained serious injuries as miscreants hurled three to four powerful bombs at a rally of Awami League candidate Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin in capital’s Lalbagh area on Thursday evening.
The injured are Monir Hossain, 20, Kamrul Islam, 20, Md Yiad, 11, Alamgir Hossain, 42, Monowara Begum, 30, Khaleda Akhter, 22, Helena, 35, Faruq Rahman, 27, Belal, 25, and Imran, 20.
They were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital immediately after the bomb attack. Our DMCH correspondent said of the victims, conditions of Monir, Kamrul and Alamgir were stated to be critical.
Quoting the witnesses, Lalbagh police said a gang of unidentified criminals hurled three to four powerful bombs from the top of a building adjacent to the gate of Islambagh Eidgagh Ground at around 5:30pm while the supporters of Awami League candidate for Dhaka 7 constituency Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin were taking preparation to bring out a procession, leaving 10 people injured.
Dr Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin rushed to the DMCH to visit the victims at 6:30pm, immediately after being informed.
The victims said two or three unidentified criminals hurled bombs. But, it could not be seen that how they fled the scene as heavy smokes engulfed the entire area.
Some of the locals alleged that local criminal MIah, a brother of Haji Delwar, along with his cohorts might have launched the attack.
While contacted, Harun-ur-Rashid, deputy commissioner of Lalbagh Division, told the Dhaka Tribune that they were looking into the matter and trying to identify and arrest the criminals.
