Jatiya Party unveils manifesto

Update : 02 Jan 2014, 06:19 AM

Jatiya Party unveiled its election manifesto at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital on Thursday morning.

JP presidium member Anisul Islam Mahmud announced party’s manifesto at 10am.

"The main objective of the JaPa is to maintain the continuation of the Constitution of the country,” he said.

Ershad had earlier declared that he would not take part in the upcoming elections slated for January 5.

However, party sources claim that Ershad had told the leaders to take part in the polls. They have been campaigning under the leadership of party’s senior Presidium member Rawshan Ershad, also wife of the party chief.

JaPa’s Research and Strategy Wing in a statement Wednesday said its head Bobby Hajjaj, also a special adviser to Ershad, had conducted a video conference with the party leaders and assured them that Ershad was not a part of the polls.

Soon after Ershad’s arrest on December 12, the wing in a statement claimed that it had stopped its activities because of unknown reasons.

Jatia Party is the fourth one that announced its election pledges just two days before of the forthcoming parliamentary polls billed for January 5.

The polls will be held in 147 constituencies as 153 candidates out of 300 have already been elected uncontested.
