BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia would join the “March for Democracy” on December 29, BNP Vice-Chairman Maj (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said.
He made the statement at a press conference at National Press Club on Saturday evening.
On Tuesday, Khaleda called the nation to join the opposition in a “March for Democracy,” wielding the national flag, and a rally at Nayapaltan on Sunday to resist the January 5 polls.
However, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities have rejected the prayer of the 18-party alliance for holding the programme on security ground.
BNP leader Jainul Abdin Farroque on Wednesday had submitted an application to the DMP seeking permission for the programme.
Meanwhile, transport owners and workers in different districts suspended the Dhaka-bound transports since Friday fearing sabotage ahead of opposition’s programme.
Khaleda, in a video statement issued on Friday, urged her party members to defy any possible hindrance coming in the way of the party's programme.
