BNP denied permission for Dec 29 rally

Update : 27 Dec 2013, 10:03 AM

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities have rejected the prayer of the 18-party alliance for holding its ‘Dhaka March’ programme on December 29 on security ground.

Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner at the Media Centre of the DMP, told the Dhaka Tribune on Friday night: “The DMP authorities have finally decided for not to permit the 18-party alliance for holding its Dhaka March programme on December 29 on the security ground.”

DC Masudur Rahman informed the final decision hours after Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam of DMP had said the 18-party alliance was yet to be permitted for holding its programme on December 29 considering security to the city dwellers and for their protections.

BNP leader Jainul Abdin Faruq, chief whip of the opposition parties in the parliament, on Wednesday had submitted an application to the DMP seeking permission for the Dhaka March programme.

Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Monirul Islam said they had reports from intelligence agencies claiming that the miscreants who were involved in the recent countrywide violence are moving to the capital in the name of the Dhaka March rally.

He said those criminals might commit the crimes further which they had carried out earlier through arson attacks on transports, divers, workers and passengers, felling hundreds of tress, killing and injuring policemen and public at different places out of the country

“Considering the overall circumstance, we are further reviewing the situation. After the review, the decision on the permission of the programme will be informed later”, said the DMP spokesperson.
