Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu termed the opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s “March for Democracy” programme a “March for Destruction”.
The minister made the remarks while talking to journalists at his secretariat office on Thursday afternoon, two hours after Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said the government has nothing to say about the march, if it is non-violent.
Contradicting Obaidul Quader’s statement, Inu said: “The government will prevent such steps politically. It is better not to let the opposition holding such programme that may hinder the polls process.”
Criticizing the BNP, he said: “They have gotten a number of proposals from the government but they did not cooperate with us on the election issue.” Meanwhile, he urged the opposition leaders to reach to a consensus in order to let the government arrange a successful election.
