Hefazat-e-Islam leaders will hold a meeting in Chittagong on Wednesday to fix their next course of action over holding a rally in the capital.
Hefazat’s Dhaka unit Convener Nur Hossain Quashemi made the disclosure duringt a Dua Mahfil after Zahur prayers at a Baridhara madrasa in the capital, Tuesday.
Hefazat, a Qawmi madrasa-based Islamist organisation, had called the December 24 rally weeks ahead of the January 5 national elections, amidst the ongoing agitation programmes of the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
They were unable to get government permission to hold the rally.
Later on Monday, the chief of the group’s Dhaka unit said they had postponed the organisation’s scheduled grand rally for December 24 at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel because of that reason.
Central Hefazat leaders, however, said they would continue their efforts towards having the rally realised.
