4 policemen among 14 injured in Jhenaidah

At least 14 people, including four policemen, were injured when blockade supporters clashed with law enforcers in Shailkupa upazila, Jhenaidah on Monday morning.

The incident occurred at 8:15am during the nationwide blockade programme of the BNP-led 18-party alliance.

Shailkupa police Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain said the blockade supporters, carrying daggers and other local sharp and lethal weapons, brought out a procession from Kabirpur Bazar area. They began pelting stones when police intervened with the procession that was to lead to the upazila town. The unruly blockade supporters also vandalized three nearby shops and a branch office of the state-run Agrani Bank.

In retaliation, police fired six rounds of blank shots to tame the situation, triggering a clash between them.

During the clash, at least 14 people, including 4 police personnel, were injured.

The injured Sub Inspector Abdul Aziz, Constables Rubel, Tota Mia and Sabed Ali were taken to local upazila health complex.
