Jatiya Party leader Kazi Firoz Rashid yesterday said his party was confused about whether to participate in the parliamentary elections, mainly due to conflicting statements made by the party’s top brass.
“We are going to participate in the January 5 polls under the instructions of Ershad’s wife Rawshan Ershad,” Rashid told journalists yesterday.
Earlier, JaPa chairman HM Ershad announced that the party was going to stay away from the polls. On the other hand, Firoz Rashid on Thursday said JaPa was joining the polls with Ershad’s consent.
“The party leaders and activists are confused whether JaPa is participating in the polls or not,” said Rashid, who is contesting the polls from Dhaka 6.
Rashid also said JaPa’s election manifesto was ready, but there was no instruction from the top about announcement.
“We need help from the country’s biggest political party Awami League,” said Rashid.
A total of 88 JaPa candidates are contesting the polls.
Meanwhile, Party Secretary General, ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader avoided a scheduled press conference on Saturday.
However, GM Quader, Ershad’s brother, told reporters on Saturday that the party chief was determined not to join the polls.
