Police arrested the Islami Chhatra Shibir president of Aditmari upazila unit from Lalmonirhat district during a late night drive.
The arrestee is Anowarul Islam, 26, resident of Mahishkhocha village in the upazila, police said.
Aditmari police Officer-in-Charge Aslam Iqbal confirmed the identity of the arrested and said Anowarul was nabbed from his village around 11:30pm Saturday.
The Shibir leader has been detained for arson and an attack on police during a recent blockade programme of the BNP-led 18-party alliance, he added.
The arrest takes place during an on-going crackdown of the joint forces, paramilitary BGB, elite force Rab and police through vulnerable districts of the country.
Lalmonirhat is one of the districts where violence has been a regular issue during agitation programmes since October.
