Acting Chhatra Dal president held

Detective branch of police yesterday detained the acting president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, including another activist of the party.

Police said they were accused in several cases, including arson, vandalism and assault on police.

Fazlul Karim Chowdhury Abed, the acting president of the student wing of the opposition BNP, was held from a market on Elephant road in the capital around 2:30pm.

However, police could not provide immediate details about the activist, who was detained with the president.

Krishnapado Roy, deputy commissioner of the South Division of the Detective Branch, said the detainees were taken to the DB headquarters at the capital’s Minto Road.

Fazlul Karim Chowdhury Abed had been made the acting president of Chhatra Dal following the arrest of the party’s president Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel on December 6.

Sharif Uddin, one of the vice-presidents of the party, was also detained with Abdul Kader Bhuiyan.

Earlier on November 17, DB officials arrested the party’s General Secretary Habibur Rashid Habib.

They were also accused of their alleged involvement in recent violence including, arson and vandalism as well as assault on law enforcers.
