At least three were injured in a scuffle between supporters of two Awami League candidates for the ensuing parliamentary election in Garaganj Bazaar area under Sailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah district yesterday.
Locals said a group of supporters of independent candidate Nayeb Ali Jpoarder attacked Awami League nominated candidate and former state minister Abdul Hyee around 5.15pm near a petrol pump owned by Nayeb Ali Joarder.
To retaliate, supporters of Abdul Hyee poured in from neighboring villages in the area with local weapons immediately after the incident.
They swooped on the election camp of Nayeb Joarder. Sailkupa police station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain said three sustained minor injuries during the clash and were admitted to Jhenaidah sadar hospital.
Additional law enforcers were deployed at the spot following the incident, the OC said.
