Tofail: PM informed of BNP demands

Update : 19 Dec 2013, 10:07 AM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been informed of the demands placed by main opposition BNP, Industries Minister Tofail Ahmed said on Thursday.

“A meeting on this issue might be held later with BNP as per the party’s decision,” Tofail said after a meeting with Canadian envoy.

However, there were little chances of holdings talks with the main opposition regarding elections, he added.

Awami League and BNP began talks under mediation of United Nations’ special envoy Oscar Fernandez-Taranco, what was thought of as ice melting.

“BNP wants the government to release their leaders kept under captivity,” Tofail said. “But that is not possible since they have not withdrawn their agitation.”

It is now being seen that the polls-time government has ruled out any scope for BNP to join the Janury 5 elections, which will be held in due time.
