Pro-BNP teacher body urges teachers not to discharge electoral duties

Update : 15 Dec 2013, 08:45 PM

United Alliance for Teachers and Employees, a pro-BNP teachers’ organisation, yesterday urged all teachers not to discharge their poll duties in the upcoming national elections.

At a meeting in the capital yesterday, teachers of the organisation also termed the next general elections, scheduled to be held on January 5, 2014, a “mockery.”

Speaking at the meeting, the organisation Chairman Salim Bhuiyan said no government teacher should discharge their electoral duties in the 10th parliamentary elections, as it was not acceptable to the people.

Mentioning that a total of 151 of the 300 constituencies were elected uncontested, Salim said: “The January 5 elections will be the biggest mockery of the world.”

The withdrawal of nomination by Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad from three constituencies, where he was declared elected, was yet another “mockery,” Salim said.

He also termed the Election Commission a “spineless” organisation.
