JP reiterates stance on polls boycott

The Jatiya Party Chairman Ershad has reiterated his party’s stance on not joining the upcoming January 5 elections.

Ershad's special adviser Bobby Hajjaj briefed the JP chairman’s statement at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.

“Jatiya Party will not join the polls as a democratic government will not be elected through the elections,” Hajjaj said quoting Ershad.

He also said HM Ershad, his Jatiya Party and its presidium are not involved with the elections. Hajjaj said, currently he is the spokesperson of JP. 

“If any other person except party’s Secretary General Ruhul Amin Hawlader and GM Quader gives any statement, it will not be considered as JP’s statement,” he added.

About the JP candidates who will win uncontested in the election, Hajjaj said: “The JP candidates have filed withdrawal letters. But, their withdrawal notices have not been accepted.”

Earlier JP leader Tajul Islam said the party leaders who had not withdrawn their nomination papers; they would participate in the elections with ‘plough’ symbol.

He made the statement after a meeting with JP Presidium Member Rowshan Ershad in the afternoon.
