Jatiya Party chief and former president HM Ershad said Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members have detained him at Combined Medical Hospital (CMH) under the false pretense of treatment.
He disclosed the matter through a press release issued by his Special Advisor Bobby Hajjaj.
Criticising the matter, he said: “I am not sick. I have been kept detained here for arrest.”
Meanwhile, he urged all party members to remain patient.
Indicating Mojibul Hoque Chunnu, Ershad said: “I have not appointed anyone as my spokesperson. I heard a leader is giving statements as the spokesperson of the party.”
“If he [the leader] has done so, then it’s his own liability and will be considered as his own opinion,” he added.
The party chief also he said could take actions against anyone who might negatively impact party discipline.
“Party Secretary General Ruhul Amin Hawlader and my brother, also Presidium member GM Quader will move forward under my instructions to the party leaders,” Party chief said.
He added that he will be giving his statements to the media through Bobby.
Earlier, Rab members detained Ershad from his President Park residence in the capital’s Baridhara.
Immediately after the detention the former president was taken to CMH, said sources in the Rab.
Lt Col Kismat Hayat, commanding officer of Rab-1, denied the detention claiming they were providing security escort to Ershad on his way to the hospital after he had fallen sick.
