Awami League Presidium member Mohammad Nasim has said it is high time that law enforcement agencies cracked down on the anarchy committed by the BNP and Jamaat-Shibir activists.
“People are with you, and there should not be any leniency for those offenders,” he said.
If lawmen were more vigilant, they would be able to rein in the violence eating away at people of the nation, added Nasim.
The Awami League presidium member was speaking at a meeting of the 14-party alliance yesterday.
Nasim said the culprits who launched arson attack on people and burnt them alive should be dealt with using heavy-handed tactics.
The Awami League leader blamed leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia for the current political violence.
The ruling party always wanted a solution of the present stalemate, but that must be under the constitutional framework, he said, adding that anything beyond the constitution would not be accepted. Nasim stressed that Sheikh Hasina would head up the polls-time government.
Pointing at the state minister for law and at the home minister, the veteran leader said the key ministers should express their opinions in a judicious language.
A slip of the tongue on their part might be a bar to executing the court’s verdict, he warned.
Presided over by Gana Azadi League President Abdus Samad, the meeting was, among others, attended by Awami League Organising Secretaries Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, BM Mozammel Huq, Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, General Secretary of Workers Party Anisur Rahman Mallik, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader Shirin Akter and Joint Convener of Communist Kendra Dr Wazedul Islam Khan.
