A Dhaka court on Monday ordered to send three detained BNP leaders to jail rejecting their bail plea and police’s remand prayer in three cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations.
The leaders are Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP leader ASM Hannan Shah and Executive Committee Member Belal Ahmed.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order. The magistrate also ordered the investigation officer to quiz him at jail gate if needed.
Police produced the opposition leaders before the court, showing Rizvi arrested in three cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations while Hannan and Belal were shown arrest in two cases filed with Motijheel police station.
Police sought 30 days’ remand for Rizvi and 20 days’ remand for each of the two leaders this morning.
In the case statement filed on November 5 with Motijheel Police Station Sub-inspector ASI AKM Azizul Haque, it was said that the five arrestees along with 60-90 opposition activists blockaded a road in front of New Anar Bakery near Kamalapur Bazar during the second spell of the 60-hour hartal.
In another case, on September 24, Sub-inspector Humayun Kabir Hawlader filed the case with Motijheel Police Station against 53 leaders and unnamed 80-90 people.
Investigation Officer SI Khandakar Zahid Ali alleged that the BNP leaders torched seven cars and blasted several cocktails in front of Motijheel Ideal School and College on September 24 from a procession which also blockaded the road. In the period of vandalism the accused attempted to kill drivers of vehicles.
The other case was filed with Paltan police station for the alleged involvement of the accused in blockade violence on November 28.
