Don’t be a part of unilateral polls, BNP to officials

Update : 07 Dec 2013, 01:18 PM

The main opposition BNP argued on Saturday for the government officials to not take apart in the one-sided electoral process.

Meanwhile, the party has also asked the election commission to suspend the election schedule.

“We are urging all the government officials to carry out their duties neutrally to serve the people and to serve the state. Do not be used as a tool to achieve any person’s or any party’s illegal intention or order,” Salahuddin Ahmed, party’s joint secretary general, said through a video message.

Urging the people to get united to compel the government to step down from the office, the spokesperson of the party said, “International community does not want such one-sided election. A large portion of teacher community has already expressed their reservation about carrying out duty in the polls.”

Salahuddin claimed that the government wants to hold the ‘farcical polls’ as it fears of holding elections in a level playing field.

Asking the election commission to suspend the election schedule, Salahuddin said, “Suspend the election schedule immediately otherwise you will have to face trial one day.”

The BNP leader claimed that more than 217 people were injured, over 103 were bullet wounded and more than 326 party leaders and activists were arrested in the first day of the 72-hours countrywide blockade.
