4 JP ministers to resign to PM

Update : 07 Dec 2013, 09:55 AM

Four ministers from the Jatiya Party (JP) are set to submit their resignation letters to the Prime Minister on Sunday.

The ministers are Ruhul Amin Hawlader, civil aviation and tourism minister, GM Quader, commerce minister and Mujibul Haq Khan Chunnu, state minister for youth and sports, and Salma Islam, state minister for women and children affairs.

Hawlader, also the secretary-general of JP, informed media personnel about the decisions of three ministers on Saturday afternoon.

He was briefing journalists after meeting the party chief HM Ershad at his Baridhara residence in the capital.

“Though we need to seek an appointment with the Prime Minister, we still haven’t got one yet,” he added.

Hour before the press conference, another JP minister Salma Islam met HM Ershad. While leaving Ershad's residence, she told journalists that she would also submit her resignation to the prime minister on Sunday.

On Thursday, four ministers of Jatiya Party in the polls-time all-party government handed in their resignation letters over to party chief HM Ershad.

However, two other JP ministers Rowshan Ershad and Anisul Islam Mahmud and PM's Adviser Zaiuddin Bablu are yet to submit their resignation letters.

Earlier, in November, an interim cabinet was formed as per ruling Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s proposal for an ‘all-party’ cabinet to oversee the upcoming polls.

Six ministers of the 29-member polls-time cabinet are from Jatiya Party who took oaths on November 21.
