A Dhaka court on Wednesday rejected the 10-day remand and bail petition for BNP joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and sent him to prison.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Salam gave the order after hearing both petitions in the morning. Rizvi can be quizzed in prison, he added.
Earlier, around 10am, police produced Rizvi at court and continued the hearing of 10-day petition to grill the BNP leader in police custody.
The concerned case was filed over setting a running bus on fire in the capital on Thursday evening. Three, among the 19 burn victims of the incident, have died.
A case was filed with Shahbagh police station over the incident accusing at least four front-line BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Rizvi, Mirza Abbas and Amanullah Aman.
Earlier on Saturday, police raided BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital and arrested Rizvi “on specific charges.” Details were not provided then.
He had been residing in the headquarters for the past few months before the police detained him.
