The BNP yesterday rejected some ministers’ claim that a process for holding a dialogue was on to resolve the existing political impasse, alleging that the government was spreading the propaganda to mislead people.
“This immoral and illegal government does not want an understanding and it is not cordial about reaching one. The government is talking about this so-called dialogue, which is completely baseless, only to mislead people,” BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a statement.
He said the whole nation, including other political parties, professionals and social organisations, wanted an inclusive, free, fair and acceptable election. Even the United Nations and the international community had expressed similar opinions.
“That is why the movement has spread across the country in demand for elections under a non-partisan government,” Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader alleged that the government was following the strategy of disseminating propaganda as it had been weakening every moment.
He also said most political parties had not taken part in the “so-called farcical” polls and proved that most of the people would not accept such polls.
“But the government and the subservient Election Commission want to hold a one-sided election.” Fakhrul demanded suspension of the election schedule and demanded resignation of the government to hold the election under a non-partisan government.
