2 killed in Chittagong blockade violence

Two persons were killed and two others received burn injuries in separate incidents blockade violence in Sitakunda and Cement Crossing area of the port city on early Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Mahbub, 25, driver of a covered van, and Rasel, a ward level leader of Swechasebak Dal unit in Sitakunda.

Driver Mahbub van was killed and two others received burn injuries as pickets hurled crude bombs to the vehicle in Cement Crossing area of the port city early on Tuesday.

Zahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bondor police station, confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the death.

He said a covered van caught fire as some blockade supporters threw crude bombs to it around 3:30am, leaving its driver Mahbub dead on the spot.

Two others injured were admitted to the burn unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital, he added.

Rasel, Swechasebak Dal president of Muradpur Khanhanabad ward, was killed in a clash between the blockade supporters and police in Sitakunda upazila of the port city on early Tuesday.

Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Sitakunda police station, confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
