Two Jubadal leaders slain in alleged AL attacks

Two Juba Dal leaders were shot and hacked to death yesterday inBogra and Comilla,allegedly by rival Jubo League and Awami League activists.

In Bogra, Imran Sheikh, 28, a member of the regional committee of the BNP’s youth wing,died as a gang of criminals stormed his house at Begum Bazar Lane in ChawkSutrapur of the district.

The victim’s family said the criminals stormed their house and opened fire on Imran. Later, they hacked him indiscriminately after he fell to the ground, killing him on the spot.  

The criminals also hacked Hilu Sheikh as he came to his brother’s rescue.Hiluwas takento ShaheedZiaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.  

The victim’s family members alleged that those who took part in the killing were local Jubo League leader Matin’s men.  

Assistant Police Super (A-circle) Nazir Hossain said they have identified the killers.

“They are identified criminals of the area. We’re trying to arrest them,” he said.

Meanwhile, another Juba Dal leader was killedyesterday as two Awami League activists allegedly stabbed him at Gouripur under Daudkandiupazilain Comilla.

The deceased, Zahangir Sarkar, 35, was the general secretary of Gouripur union Juba Dal and son of Fazar Ali of Hatchandina village of the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge at Daudkandi police station, AbulFaysal, said Zahangirwas stabbed indiscriminately in his abdomen and chest. He claimed two AL activists, Sajeb, 23, son of AkteruzzmanHarun and Shawon, 20, son of MohamoodTaher of the upazila, carried out the attack.

“Zahangir was rushed to Gouripur Health Complex in a critical condition, where duty doctors declared him dead,”AbulFaysalsaid.

The body was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

“Zahangir might have been killed because of previous enmity,” the OC said.

Meanwhile, victim’s elder brother, Manik Sarkar claimed the criminals killed his brother as he (Manik) declined to pay ransom.  A murder case was lodged with Daudkandi police in this connection, the OC said.
