Business leaders to meet Hasina-Khaleda

Update : 02 Dec 2013, 01:11 PM

A delegation of businessmen, comprising representatives from the BGMEA, BKMEA and BTMEA, is set to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Khaleda Zia on Monday evening.

BGMEA President Atiqul Islam told journalists about the meetings at the BGMEA building Monday afternoon.

"The delegation is expected to discuss on current political impasse with the premier and the oppostion chief," Atiqul said.

They would also submit a memorandum regarding the incident of arson attack at the garment factory of Standard group, he  added.

The business leaders said they were scheduled to hold a protest rally in this regard at Wednesday noon in front of the National Press Club. Recently, the business community leaders have taken an initiative to broker a dialogue between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia.

But, the initiative fell flat as their concerns about political volatility and appeals for a peaceful solution have been "treated" with "cold shoulder" during their separate meetings with the two top leaders.

The prime minister did not agree to call Khaleda for a second time and offer a fresh date for talks as requested by the business delegation led by Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) chief Kazi Akramuddin Ahmad.
