Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday expressed her grave woes over victimising common people through arson and bomb attacks on buses and other transports during opposition hartal and blockade programmes.
“It is neither politics nor any movement. It is sheer terrorist activities,” Hasina said. “BNP and Jamaat are now carrying out genocide in the name of movement,” she added.
The PM made the comments to reporters on Sunday afternoon after visiting burn victims, who were critically injured in petrol bomb attacks during the latest hartal and blockade programmes of the BNP-led 18-party alliance, at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Terming the burning of people alive a genocide, Hasina called upon opposition leader to stop such hateful politics, and not to play with the lives of people.
“In the past, we were (involved) in a long movement for democracy and other national issues. But, never did we experience such brutality as BNP and Jamaat are unleashing now,” she said.
“I express my absolute hate towards such politics,” Hasina said, adding, “I don’t know what BNP and Jamaat are gaining from those barbaric acts.”
Hasina said the government had softened its stand to resolve the ongoing political crisis. “But, BNP did not pay heed to our request, and opted for politics of killing,” she said.
The PM added that the government would go tough, as required, against such brutality. The instigators would be brought to justice, she assured.
Hasina urged the media, particularly television networks, to focus on the perpetrators of bomb attacks, instead of going for indiscriminate publicity of the terrorist activities, which, she said, only encouraged the culprits.
