The Jatiya Party of Hussein Muhammad Ershad met with the Chief Election Commissioner on Sunday and demanded more time in submitting nomination papers.
A high-powered 12-member delegation, led by Sohel Rana, placed some demands for the upcoming 10th general elections slated for January 5.
The secretary for the election steering committee of Jatiya Party, SM Failsal Chisti, briefed the media after meeting with CEC Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed.
Demands were placed to extend the December 2 deadline to submit nomination papers by 10 days, he said.
A demand for ensuring a level playing field by removing “controversial” police officials and the deployment of military with judicial powers were also placed, he added.
HM Ershad also requested for a 45-minute address to the nation through Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television, Chisti said.
Former military ruler Ershad left the Awami League-led alliance and decided independent participation in polls amidst uncertainty over the participation of the BNP.
He had previously threatened to boycott the elections if the main opposition BNP does not participate in the polls.
