One person was shot and the house of a local MP was burned during the daylong violence between Awami League and BNP supporters in Swandip, Chittagong on Sunday.

Iqbal Pasha Javed, son of local Chittagong-13 member of parliament for BNP – Mostafa Kamal Pasha, was shot on the chest.

Police said Awami League and BNP supporters clashed throughout most of the day in Taltali Bazar over the hacking of a Jubo League activist Akbar Hossain, Monday night.

After shots had been fired from both sides, Awami League supporters set the house of MP Pasha on fire, Swandip police Officer-in-Charge Giasuddin said.

The MP claimed that Awami League had hired local pirate groups to instigate the attack, but OC Giasuddin could not confirm the matter.

Iqbal Hossain Pasha was shot during the attack, the OC said. He was being taken to a hospital when this report was filed.

Details about the current situation of the area were not exactly clear.
