Jatiya Party Presidium Member Kazi Zafar Ahmed on Saturday said his leader HM Ershad has betrayed the nation by joining the polls-time government.
“Ershad made the decision to join the interim cabinet without consulting the party’s highest policymaking body, thus making himself and those who joined the newly formed cabinet unwanted,” Zafar said in a statement.
“After I recover from sickness, I will clarify my position through a press conference,” Zafar said in the statement.
Within two hours of Zafar’s statement, Ershad served a press statement, saying Kazi Zafar could not issue the statement. “He is ill and I went to see him at the hospital on Saturday [Friday]. I doubt whether he issued the statement.”
On behalf of the JP chief, his Political Secretary Sunil Shuvo Roy told the Dhaka Tribune: “If Zafar really issues the statement, then the party will take stern actions against him for breaking party rules.”
Zafar’s Personal Secretary Gulam Mostafa told the Dhaka Tribune that Zafar was ill.
