Communications Minister Obaidul Quader has expressed hopes that the main opposition would participate in the upcoming general elections.
“The party [BNP] will join the elections because of pressure from its leaders and workers,” he said.
The minister made the comment on Saturday morning while inaugurating the construction of an overpass at Fatehpur on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
The main challenge of the polls-time government was to hold free, fair and credible elections, Obaidul said.
Asked about BNP’s threat to paralyse the country, the minister said: “It could not be a decent language for a political party.”
He also reiterated his call to the BNP to take part in the elections.
On Friday, the BNP-led 18-party alliance threatened to paralyse the country from the moment the Election Commission announced polls-schedules without settling the issue of non-partisan government.
