The BNP-led 18-party alliance on Friday threatened to paralyse the country from the moment Election Commission announces polls schedules without settling the issue of non-partisan government.
The opposition combine also announced they would stage demonstrations in the district, upazila and thana headquarters across the country on Sunday demanding elections under a non-partisan government.
“From the moment of announcement of election schedule without first fixing up the issue of next elections under a non-partisan government, the country will be crippled,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, party’s acting secretary general, said.
The spokesperson announced the threat while addressing a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan protesting the newly formed polls-time cabinet and terming it illegal, demanding unconditional release of the arrested senior leaders and demanding elections under a non-partisan government.
Referring to newspapers news, Fakhrul said he has heard the election commission is going to announce elections schedule in the next week.
Branding the election commission subservient to the government, Fakhrul said it has been formulating laws one after another so that the ruling party can win the polls.
Terming the newly formed polls-time government illegal, Fakhrul alleged the government has shunned the path of negotiation to resolve the prevailing political crisis.
