Main opposition BNP is set to stage its previously announced countrywide protest programme today.
Leaders and activists of the BNP-led 18-part alliance have already arrived at the programme venue in the Shurawardi Udyan.
Our Correspondent reports: The leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami have already started deleviring their speeches. While addressing the protest rally, they demanded the unconditional release of their senior party leaders, who were convicted as war criminals.
Meanwhile, they also urged the government to arrange the upcoming polls under a non-party caretaker government.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to join the rally within minutes.
The party is staging the programme protesting the formation of the all-party cabinet and demanding the unconditional release of all leaders and activists, and insisting the polls be held under a non-partisan caretaker government.
Earlier on Monday, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the city at night.
On the same day, six new ministers and two state ministers were sworn in as part of the all-party cabinet. Of the ministers, two are from Awami League, five from Jatiya and one from the Workers Party.
