Update : 21 Nov 2013, 01:22 PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina invited BNP spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for a secretary-level dialogue between Awami League and BNP, said Chief Whip Abdus Shahid.

Shahid told the Dhaka Tribune: “The premier told Fakhrul ‘come and join polls. We will hold a free, fair and credible elections.’”

The invitation was issued at a programme marking the armed forces’ day in Senakunja on Thursday.

Hasina told Mirza Fakhrul to touch base with Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and inform the desires of the opposition, what Shahid said.

The move comes hours after formation of a cabinet that is expected to guide the country through to the next elected government.

On Wednesday, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said that this was a multi-party cabinet and not all-party without main opposition BNP.

The new cabinet was attested a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she got the green signal from President Abdul Hamid.

Earlier, the BNP had requested the president’s interception for a dialogue to end the current political deadlock over how the elections will take place.

In the beginning of November, BNP agreed for an unconditional secretary-level talks with Awami League after a meeting with business leaders.
