Nineteen senior leaders from the main opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance are expected to accompany party chief Khaleda Zia during her meeting with President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in the evening.
The Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday acquired a list containing 19 names of senior alliance leaders from a party insider.
According to the source, they are: BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, ASM Hannan Shah, Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, 18-party alliance leaders ,LDP president Col (retd) Oli Ahmed, BJP leader Andalib Rahman Partha, Jamaat leader Nazir Ahmed, Islami Oikya Jote chief Abdul Latif Nezami, Khelafat Mojlish chief Mohammad Ishak, Kalyan Party Chairman Maj Gen (retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Jagpa president Shafiul Alam Prodhan, NPP chairman Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu, NDP chairman Golam Mortoza, NAP chairman Jebel Rahman Ghani and LAbour party chairman Mustafizur Rahman Iran. Earlier on Monday, President Abdul Hamid had issued an appointment to BNP chief Khaleda Zia for Tuesday evening as the opposition party had sought his time in expressing their views on current political developments.
The president agreed a meet time of 6:30pm on Tuesday, officials at the BNP chairperson’s office and the presidential palace confirmed.
This sudden move by the BNP chief came as a surprise to some front-ranking leaders, while many in the hierarchy expressed their ignorance towards what exactly Khaleda Zia might discuss at the meeting with President Hamid.
Some of the central leaders, however, guessed that the BNP chairperson might request the president to head the polls-time government.
