JS last session resumes today

Update : 17 Nov 2013, 09:58 PM

The last spell of the ninth parliament resumes today after an interval of 10 days, with the government set to end the session on Thursday amid a boycott by main opposition BNP and its allies.

According to the order of the day, parliament will enact the Travel Agencies (Registration and Control) Bill-2013 in addition to the scheduled question-answer hour for the ministers and discussion on the urgent public important issues.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on November 10 adjourned the House until November 18, as she left Dhaka for New York.

On Thursday, the president is likely to prorogue the legislature, and it will remain dormant after the announcement of the polls schedule for the next general election, Chief Whip Abdus Shahid told the Dhaka Tribune.

Other than a national crisis such as war, the House would not meet between November 21 and January 24 next year, he said.

Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on November 20 will deliver her windup speech, deferred from October 24.
