The High Court stayed the lower court remand order for five BNP leaders effective immediately and sent them to jail.
Bench of Justice Borhan Uddin and Justice KM Kamrul Quader delivered the order Sunday afternoon in response to a petition.
The investigation officer can interrogate the five leaders in jail if necessary, the order added.
The five are: Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Rafiqul Islam Miah, Khaleda Zia’s advisor Abdul Awal Mintoo and her special assistant Shimul Biswas.
On Thursday, a lower court sent them to eight-day remand in two Motijheel police cases of vandalism, arson and attack on police.
Mahbubuddin Khokon filed a petition with the High Court seeking halt to the remand petition Sunday morning.
In response, the court delivered its verdict after completing hearing in the afternoon.
