At least two people were killed and 25 others injured in a clash between two rival groups of ruling Awami League over establishing supremacy in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Harmuj Ali, 60, and Ruhul Amin, 30, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Companiganj police station Saleh Uddin said there was a dispute between Awami League’s upazila unit General Secretary Aftab Ali Kala Miah and his relative Abdul Ali, also a local leader of the party, over establishing supremacy in the area.
The supporters of Aftab Ali locked in a clash with the supporters of Abdul Ali around 5pm, leaving Harmuj Ali and Ruhul Amin dead on the spot and injured 25 others.
Additional police were deployed in the area to avoid further untoward circumstances.
