Update : 11 Nov 2013, 12:00 PM

Demanding ban on the politics of Shibir, the leaders and activists of the Chittagong University (CU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Monday staged a demonstration on the campus.

Our Correspondent reports: the BCL leaders have submitted a memorandum consisting of a five-point demand which includes a ban on Shibir politics, with the office of the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Anwarul Azim Arif.

They have also issued an ultimatum to the VC to meet their demands by November 15.

Several hundreds of BCL members brought out a procession from Shah Jalal Hall earlier in the morning.

Referring to the High Court order that declared the registration of Jamaat Illegal, Alamgir Tipu, organizing secretary of BCL’s CU unit, told the Dhaka Tribune that they demanded an immediate ban on the politics of Shibir from the campus.

He said: “We also urged the authority to arrest the outsider shibir who was carrying arms and weapons in the dormitories.

The BCL’s university unit will announce tougher movement on the campus from November 16, if the authority fails to meet our demands by November 15,” he added.

Anwar Hossain, assistant proctor of the university said they had received a copy of the memorandum.

Mentioning that the authority will look into the matter sincerely, he said: “We are committed to keep the congenial atmosphere on the campus.”

“We will not spare those, who will breach the rules of the university,” added the assistant proctor.
